The district is notifying the HJM Elementary community that students from a single household are lab-tested positive for Covid-19. Additionally, one staff member has tested positive. The staff member and students were last on the HJM campus on Friday, 12/4/2020. The campus administration and nurse conducted a thorough investigation and notified any “close contacts” on Monday, 12/7/2020. Due to privacy requirements, we will not be releasing the name of the individuals or details. The school was thoroughly cleaned and sanitized with E- Mist over the weekend as a precaution.
Please stay at home if a student/ family member has symptoms for COVID 19. Also, if a student or any individual in the home is waiting on COVID test results, please stay at home. Any of the following symptoms may indicate a possible COVID-19 infection. If a student has any of these symptoms, please keep them at home and call the school nurse.
Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit

Cough, or Difficulty breathing or, Shortness of breath

Headache

Chills or shaking or exaggerated shivering

A new Education Task Force has been created to provide guidance for schools in cases such as these. The Bexar County Region 8 public health authority will conduct an investigation by making contact with the individual and any “close contacts”.
Region 8 phone calls will have a (210) area code. If a student or household member begins to experience any of these symptoms in a way that is not typical, we encourage you to contact your physician. We encourage students, staff or family members connected with HJM Elementary to please notify the school if a household member is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19.
